Augmented reality as a story starter

My students used the app ColAR mix today as a story starter. First I gave them a couple options of pictures that they could colour. I didn’t quite tell them what they were going to be doing with it. I reminded them of my expectations of what proper grade 1/2 colouring looks like, and then let them do the rest. When they were done I came around with one of our class iPads and showed the individual what would happen when the app ColAR mix viewed their paper. They were so intrigued and the oohs and aahs eventually got the other kids curious as well. I put one of our iPads on each of the student’s tables, and told the kids when they were done colouring they could use the app to make their picture come to life. The kids loved it, and did it ever spark some interesting stories. Check out the pictures to see how the 2D picture becomes 3D before their eyes!
