Veggie Skeletons

Posted on November 2, 2012. Filed under: crafts, Grade 1 & 2, Healthier Living |

I had a friend tell me about a great little craft to do for Halloween.  Her class and mine are reading buddies so we worked on it together.

We got together a bag of vegetables of all different sizes and kinds.  The kids got into groups and had to come up with a way to make a skeleton out of these vegetables.

Some kids used cucumbers for the spine and cherry tomatoes for the eyes.  We put ranch dip on a circle paper plate, and the plate was the skeleton’s head.  They worked down from the head and came up with some really neat creations!

The best part of the whole process is at the end, the kids (on Halloween) get to eat an extremely healthy snack.  I saw some of my grade ones watching the older kids eating some of the veggies and trying things they might not ever try otherwise!  Besides, this is probably the healthiest thing they will eat all week!
