Week Nine: Eat more Roughage Foods!

Posted on April 3, 2009. Filed under: Healthier Living |

Have you ever heard of the term Roughage before?  Roughage foods are the foods that can’t be digested by our intestinal track.  For example, celery, is a roughage food.  It is good to snack on because it actually takes your body more work to break it up and pass it through you than it gives you energy (calories).  Roughage foods are high in fibre and help with constipation.  There are a lot of high roughage foods out there, but here’s a list of a few of them: almonds, artichokes, beans, bran, coconut, celery, lentils, whole grain oatmeal, soybeans, and whole grain bread. Try one of these out this week! See if you can include one of these roughage foods into your snacks or meals.  It will definitely help you lower your calorie intake because you will feel full without eating as many calories!

Optional Fast/Challenge: Try to not play any video games this week.  Instead, read a book!
